Check your answer
Type the name left standing, first and last, in any order. The page says yes or no, and nothing else.
Case closed. Ashby has one more file for you.
His first case, from years before the gala: a smaller register, a checkpoint after every clue, and the solution at the back. Leave your first name and your email, and print it tonight. Then seven short emails over your first 30 days, with one-minute cases, playing tips, and news of Case File No. 2, and about one a month after that.
Nothing you type here is kept with anything about you. The page counts how many checks are made, and which wrong names come up most often: that is how a clue that reads two ways gets found and fixed.

Checked before printing
The four checks of the Fair-Play Guarantee on page 3, made on the printed pages:
- One killer. Exactly one name in the register survives every clue.
- No name repeated. No two guests share a full name.
- Letters A to Z only. No accents, no marks: counting letters is never a judgment call.
- Every checkpoint recounted. Each number printed under a clue was counted a second time on the finished pages.
Questions about the rules
When a reader asks something the rules pages do not settle, the question and the answer go here. None so far.

Sheets to print
A second copy for a friend who wants to work the case beside you, or for you, if you would rather not cut the book. Print at actual size (100%): the corner marks show the size of a page of the book.

The Suspect Funnel
One page. Shade a bar, tick the box and write the date each time a checkpoint matches.

The clue strips
Two pages: print them on the two sides of one sheet, flipping on the long edge, then cut along the lines. Each strip keeps its checkpoints on the back.

Case File No. 0: Ashby’s First Case
Leave your first name and your email, and the case is yours to print right away: one evening in Wexley, years before the Winter Lantern Gala, a register with age and table, and a checkpoint after every clue. Then seven short emails over your first 30 days: one-minute cases, playing tips, and news of Case File No. 2. After that, about one a month. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of every email.
Write to me
If a number did not match for you and the help pages did not settle it, tell me where you are: the clue, the checkpoint, and the count you got. I answer, and I would rather hear it from you first.
